The FIRST Robotics Competition is an international high school robotics competition organized by FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology). Each year teams of high school students worldwide are given a standard set of parts and the game details at the beginning of January and are given six weeks to construct a competitive robot, to accomplish the game’s tasks. The mission of FIRST is to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders, by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build STEM (science, technology, engineering and math skills), that inspire innovation, and that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership.

The Miller Place High School Robotics Team #514 needs your help. We are contacting you because we understand the important role robotics and technology play in the manufacture and support of your products. The students who participate in FIRST are the future employees in companies like yours around the world. We are a small school district on Long Island. Despite our size, we have become a competitive powerhouse team. Regrettably, due to budget reductions, the Robotics team does not receive funding from the School District. Only tireless fundraising efforts and heartfelt donations enable this program to continue to provide this wonderful opportunity for our students.

We are seeking sponsors who believe, as we do, that supporting Robotics is an investment in the future. Many of our members are planning careers in various disciplines of engineering, computer science, computer aided design, software engineering and computer engineering. Through the FIRST Robotics program, they are learning about creativity, hard work and meeting goals and deadlines. These skills are important lessons for the leaders of tomorrow and for Long Island’s future workforce.

Please consider being part of our endeavor. We would be happy to meet with you to provide more detailed information about the team and the key role that you could play. For additional information or to request a presentation, contact Nancy Arnold at 631-209-0463 or email mpRobotics@optonline.net.
