Who Are We

The Miller Place Robotics Booster Club (MPRBC) is a 501(c)(3) non-for-profit organization created with the purpose of organizing fundraising activities for two Miller Place School District teams; the High School Robotics team and the Middle School LEGO League Team. These teams participate in regional and national level competitions that are run and coordinated by FIRST, a not-for profit organization with the purpose of inspiring young people’s interest and participation in science and technology.

What is the Robotics Club?

The Robotics Club is a unique varsity sport of the mind designed to allow High School students to apply their interests in research, engineering and problem solving in a competitive environment. Participation in the FIRST Robotics Competition (as Team 514) is the focus of this team’s activities. The FIRST Robotics Competition challenges teams of high school students to solve a common problem in a six-week timeframe using a standard “kit of parts” and a common set of rules. Teams design, build and program robots within the six weeks, and then participate in competitions designed by FIRST’s committee of engineers and other professionals.

What is the LEGO League?

The LEGO League provides Middle School students the opportunity to apply their enthusiasm for discovery, science and technology in a friendly, hands-on, competitive environment.

What is FIRST?

FIRST was founded in 1989 to inspire young people’s interest and participation in science and technology. Based in Manchester, NH, the 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit public charity designs accessible, innovative programs that motivate young people to pursue education and career opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and math, while building self-confidence, knowledge, and life skills.
